As Mental Health Awareness Month continues, Anthony Anderson<\/strong><\/a> is reflecting on why conversations about psychological well being are important\u2014notably for the Black neighborhood, as he says they \u201cdon\u2019t talk about\u201d it.<\/p>\n PEOPLE<\/em><\/a> experiences that the\u00a0Black-ish\u00a0<\/em>actor addressed the topic in the course of the current \u201cIt\u2019s Okay Not To Be Okay\u201d gala in Washington, D.C.<\/a><\/p>\n While talking on the occasion, Anderson shared what sparked his curiosity within the matter. Specifically, he acknowledged that his distant half-brother, who he \u201cdidn\u2019t really have a relationship with,\u201d handed away after coping with \u201cmental issues.\u201d<\/p>\n Anthony mentioned, \u201cNow that he\u2019s gone, I was like, \u2018Well, you know, maybe I should have stepped in a little sooner than today and did something about it.’\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Due to this sentiment, he\u2019s got down to \u201chelp bring awareness\u201d to psychological well being, particularly \u201cwithin the African-American community.\u201d This rationale lies in his remark that psychological well-being is \u201csomething [they] really don\u2019t talk about.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m here to help bring awareness about it, because within the African-American community, it\u2019s something that we really don\u2019t talk about.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n <\/p>\n Anthony added, \u201cI\u2019m here to say it\u2019s okay to not be okay. We are here for you.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n While persevering with to talk on the topic, Anderson reiterated that conversations about psychological well being are very important, particularly \u201cwithin our community.\u201d He additionally says whereas \u201call things are needed for this,\u201d facilitating dialogue is especially vital.<\/p>\n Anthony then supplied an instance of how he believes psychological health-related points have historically been swept below the rug.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve all grown up where there\u2019s been an aunt and uncle or family member that lived in the basement or stayed in the backroom that never really came out.
